Keep reading for our Fortnite mouse sensitivity guide which covers every aspect of mouse sensitivity so you can focus on your skills and not the boring stuff like your Fortnite mouse acceleration settings.
There are no strict rules when it comes to deciding on the best mouse sensitivity for you, it really depends on what kind of player you are and where you feel comfortable. It can seem daunting when you first discover things like mouse acceleration but don’t be put off too soon as finding your sweet spot will yield plenty of benefits!
First of all, for some reason, the developers decided to set the default Fortnite mouse sensitivity far too high. This setting won’t be the best Fortnite sensitivity for many people and if you haven’t changed your settings yet and you’re wondering why the game feels so hard, this is a likely culprit.
Changing up your Fortnite mouse sensitivity in the in-game menu can be a real help and will definitely make a difference but it’s not the only thing that you can change up. If you’re an avid gamer and have gone and bought yourself a nice gaming mouse then you’ll almost certainly be able to tinker with your hardware settings as well for added customization when you’re trying to find your best mouse sensitivity settings.
To help you lot out, we’ve decided to write a guide that takes you through how to change your mouse sensitivity settings so that you can find your sweet spot and dominate the battlefield (or should I say battle royale?). In the following post, we’ll discuss the importance of your Fortnite mouse acceleration settings and how to find the best Fortnite mouse sensitivity for you.

Fortnite Mouse Acceleration
Before we move any further, if you’re reading this guide then there is pretty good chance that you have never turned off or even heard of mouse acceleration. This is our first step in finding you your best Fortnite mouse sensitivity.
It’s a bit of a complicated process so we’ll try and keep this explanation as simple as possible. Mouse acceleration is a handy extra from Microsoft that tries to autocorrect your mouse movements in order to give a more streamlined experience when using your mouse on Windows. It’s meant to help with precision by correcting your human error (and it’s pretty useful if you’re just browsing the web etc) but when it comes to competitive gaming it actually causes you quite a few problems and is something you will want to turn off as soon as possible.
If you turn off mouse acceleration you will get much more consistent mouse movement and this will help you when gaming competitively because you can now start training knowing that each time you move your mouse the PC isn’t tampering with anything. Over time this will help as the consistency means you can properly train your muscle memory now that results remain the same when moving your mouse without the added element of randomness that mouse acceleration provides.
Follow the instructions below to turn your mouse acceleration off.
- In your Windows search bar (located in the bottom left-hand corner of your screen, next to the windows button) type “mouse settings”.
- In the Windows search window that pops up click on the link that says “change your mouse settings”.
- Then click on the “additional mouse options” link.
- Navigate your way to the “pointer options” tab within this window.
- Uncheck the box next to “enhance pointer precision”
- Voila! You’ve done it, told you it was easy!
Finding Your Perfect DPI Settings
DPI stands for dots per inch. A dot is a pixel and as the name suggests, DPI means how many pixels will you move on screen when you move your mouse an inch. So, for example, a mouse that has it’s DPI settings set at 500 will move 500 pixels for every inch that you pass it over your mouse mat.
DPI can be changed to your personal preferences but for a game like Fortnite, we would suggest choosing a slightly lower setting somewhere in the region of 500 to 1000 DPI. This lower setting will mean that you have an easier time hitting people, especially for those long-range sniper shots.
As you play more and more you may find that you can raise your DPI settings and you can still hit those epic shots. This is because you’re getting used to the game and essentially training your brain and body to be coordinated with the game movements. Professional gamers often have very high DPI because it means they can make actions very quickly. For casual gamers, this would make the game a lot harder as the settings would be far too sensitive.
There is no perfect setting for your Fortnite mouse sensitivity so what we would suggest is to have a go at a few different levels and see what works best for you. We prefer slightly lower sensitivity settings when playing games like Fortnite because it means there is more room for error when lining up shots.
Finding the Best Mouse Sensitivity in Fortnite
The final part of our guide going over how to find the best mouse sensitivity in Fortnite is the in-game mouse sensitivity settings.
Load up the game and bring up the settings menu. Click on the “game” tab, this will bring up a whole host of settings but right now we only want to edit the mouse sensitivity settings.
Once you have found the Fornite mouse sensitivity settings in the “game” tab you can now have a bit of a play around until you think you have found the right mouse sensitivity settings for your style of play and your level of experience.
There are 3 different mouse sensitivity settings that you can experiment with once you’re in there and these are.
This mouse sensitivity setting will change up your overall mouse sensitivity settings when you are running around or firing your weapon without aiming down the scopes. Keep this one a little higher as it will give you better maneuverability when running around. If it’s put too low then people will be able to get the jump on you.
Mouse ADS Sensitivity
This Fortnite mouse sensitivity setting will change your sensitivity when using the sites on a weapon, we keep this one quite low but not as low as the mouse sensitivity setting below.
Mouse Scope Sensitivity
This mouse sensitivity setting changes your sensitivity levels when aiming down a scope on a weapon, another one that we keep pretty low.
